The Bye Week - At least we didn't lose!

So, the Bucs are now the only remaining team in the NFL without a win. We've come full circle, just in time for our throwback game and the Creamsicle uniforms, complete with the Bucco Bruce helmets.

To be fair, I didn't expect all that much out of this season, anyway. When you change the head coach, GM, both coordinators, and switched out much of the roster in one season... you're in full rebuild mode, no matter what you say in the press conferences.

Now, we're going to start our 1st round QB, Josh Freeman. Our last glimmer of hope is that he comes out the next 9 games and shows us by the end of December that he's more Roethlisberger than http://search.espn.go.com/jamarcus-russell/. It's obvious that he's got some serious athletic and physical potential, but that accounts for a big pile of nothing in the NFL unless he has the work ethic and the smarts to translate it to the field. Remember this guy in the 2000 NFL Draft? Nothing special as an athlete, but he's got it working upstairs. That's where it counts in the NFL, so I'm hoping as a Bucs fan that Freeman can put in the work that is needed to be a successful Quarterback in this league.

Otherwise, we're looking at our 2nd winless season in team history...

On a related note, I've got some serious breaking news! I actually have agreed with Pat Yasinskas this week! In his latest mailbag, Pat thinks that we should re-sign Barrett Ruud, but that there shouldn't be any hurry.

I think that's crap. If we were going to let him walk in free agency, we would have at least traded him at the deadline and got some really good value in return. Pat is (somewhat) wrong in saying that Ruud is still under contract since he will be a free agent after this season, unless the new CBA is in place and Ruud will need another season of service to trigger his unrestricted free agent status. Just go ahead and sign this guy, because he he good enough to us to not have to worry about that position, so let's keep it that way Bucs!
