Through the past several weeks, I've portrayed some sort of split personality. I originally wanted this blog to be specifically about beer. I wanted to review a beer and tell you everything about it - the brewery's history, how the beer was made, but most importantly... how it tasted.
But I sat down on our first week of blogging and I froze. I really had no clue where to start or what to say. I had one of those moments of self-doubt where I wondered if I could really express the complicated process of brewing beer and reviewing it. I know I got hung up on the 750 word minimum - "How the hell am I going to fill in 750 words on a beer?! After "it tastes pretty damn good. I'm drunk as shit!"
So I wrote to Marc asking if I could expand my blog to talking about football. Boring as hell, I know. There are thousands of football blogs out there. I figured, though, that it was time to swallow my pride and ask to do something easier. Being the fantastically understanding (smart, charming, should be the program director, etc.) that he is, I was allowed to open up my options.
However, once I started writing about football I realized that it was easier to write about beer. Once I got started writing, the words began to flow from my fingers. So I ended up writing a little bit about both, but my interest in craft beer took over and I let the imaginative beast within run free. I loved writing about beer, not only because it involved drinking a lot of it, but because I found a deeper appreciation of my hobby. Writing is therapy for me. It calms me down and consumes my attention. I was able to get away and just express myself for 2 hours a week writing my blogs.
So with that, I'd like to thank anyone who has perused my postings. I hope some may consider finding an interest in the craft beer movement and if so, feel free to ask me for any advice on where to start and where to go from there. My school email is babernar@mail.usf.edu.
Thanks again, and cheers!
